Assimilation in American History

If the quote "Make America Great Again!" sounds familiar its from our ever so "lovely" 45th president of the United States, Donald Trump but of course almost everyone knows that. The thing is has America ever been that great? Not counting its golden age but rather the not so smart decisions from previous presidents. America's history of Forced Assimilation doesn't help either, especially when the Indian Removal was placed by Andrew Jackson to remove the "Indians" from their land which lead to the Trail of Tears. Not to mention the residential schools placed by Military General Richard Henry Pratt with the quote "Kill the Indian, Save the Man".
These residential schools would take Native children away from their parents and make them more "civilized", as if their actions weren't disappointing enough. Children in these schools weren't allowed to speak in their native languages, were forced to cut their hair, they also experienced extensive physical, emotional, and sexual abuse something children shouldn't experience at that age and not to mention, all done by the school staff. If we look at our neighbor Canada in one residential school located in Kamloops 215 bodies of children near the school were found, imagine how many innocent children died in both countries combined.
Now, how has the history of assimilation in United States changed my view about this topic? Well assimilation still happens today maybe not as bad as the past, but it still counts. Why? Because these events shouldn't be forgotten and should be put as a perfect example of what you shouldn't do and not follow these shame of persons footsteps as it violated many human rights. The thought that assimilation happens is quite sad and I hope people learn to love their cultures and identities without being judged. And no the history of Assimilation in The United States hasn't  changed my view about this topic because it would have still stayed the same as I think assimilation is bad or rather sad that it happens. So much for "Liberty and Justice for all".
